divvy wont work with 2nd controller

I've used a 2nd controller (a wd1006v/sr2) with xenix 2.3.2 and 2.3.3
for many months but have never been able to safely use divvy on the
second pair of disks.  Using 'divvy -b 53 -c 53' gives me the division
table for the first disk.  My workaround has been to put the second pair
on the first controller, do the divvy stuff, then move them back to the
other controller.  Now I have an esdi controller as the first one so
this is not so convenient.  Is there another workaround?
