uucp & Smartmodem hints?

I'd appreciate useful advice on using uucp with a Hayes Smartmodem
1200, and particularly about using the things with 'alternative'
long-distance carriers.

I've pretty much figured out how to configure the L.sys entries, but
I'd like to hear if anyone has run across any pitfalls due to
'features' not in the uucp installation manual.

The machine I'm using is a 68000-based one, running Uniplus+ (V7), and
I'll probably be using Long Distance USA (which I'm sure no one else
is using -- it's a local company).
