	P.S. I've recently acquired copies of the books by Bourne and
	Kernighan/Pike. None have the detail to become a UNIX guru.

Silly you. If you think you can become a UNIX guru by reading a book,
I'd suggest you try to become a VMS guru instead. But reading these
two books (among the best books on UNIX for programmers' use) could
help you to become a UNIX guru. The rest has to come from experience.
