Wanted: file pointer to file name routine

I would like a routine that returns a file's full path name
given either the file discriptor or the file pointer:

int getfilename(buffer, file)
char *buffer; FILE *file;

or similar.  Does anyone have something like this they'd
like to share for BSD 4.2 / Ultrix?
