help needed on user at host.uucp syntax

We've just got our Ultrix 32m v1.1 uucp running, and are a little
confused about sending mail to other machines.  If a letter is
addressed to A!B!C!D!joe, then it's pretty clear what's going on.
But if it's addressed to joe at D.uucp, how does the originating
machine know to send it to machine B when polled by B?  Where does
the extra information (B and C) come from?  Thanks!
