/usr/lib/tabset/9837 should contain
  <esc> 3 <carriage return> <15 of [<8 spaces> <esc> 1]> <carriage return>

That is setting tabstops all the way out to column 128 instead of column 80.
Vi can become lost if the tabstops only are set out to column 80.
