Better yet, leave the @*&#$ escape codes out of the doc files in the
first place!!  Post raw *roff source if you want users to have fancy
manpages -- otherwise give us straight text, not @*#$&@(#$& uuencoded
compressed tar files in a SOURCE newsgroup!!
