Adding features to C language

To make a recent point more strongly: I would expect ANY feature added
to the C language now to flop, as far as its use in portable programs
goes.  Why is there so much discussion of extending the language?  No
compiler even implements the current language correctly, particularly
the recent extensions such as structure passing!
