conversion of algol68

We (Computer Center of Tilburg University ,Netherlands ) are
considering the conversion of our Algol68 procedure-library
( with procedures for vector and matrix handling ,
  matrix transformations ,regression etc )
and programs into C !

My questions are:
- has anyone experience ?
- are there existing libraries in C for
  the problems mentioned ?
