Believe it or not, there is a document for ANSII.  It gives the names for
each of the characters in the character set.  Some examples:

      #  pound sign
      ^  circumflex
      \  reverse slant
      _  underline
      ~  overline (or tilda)
      `  accent grave
      @  comercial at sign
