vnews bug - exit status 139.

I've recently brought up vnews 2.11 up on our HP 9000 system running
system III UNIX.

Everything except news posting works fine.

When posting news (either through vnews or by explicitly calling postnews)
postnews bombs right at the end with the message...

Posting article...
Article not posted - exit status 139
Article saved in dead.article

This occurs after the whole rigmarole of choosing a newsgroup and 
editing a file has been done.

Has anybody seen this error before?
