UNIX pc memory diagnostic not proof positive!

Recently (like today) I had a problem with a EIA/Combo board with 512K
populated on the board. I put the chips in banks 5 & 6, and jumpered
W2 and W3, like I was told in the "Installation Guide". I was booting
the UNIX PC, and it said:

(Note this is not "icus", it's another UNIX PC I have)...

Version 3.51
Real memory = (some number) <- definately not a full 2.5MB
Memory frames 256 to 271 omitted
Memory frames 303 to 309 omitted
...
Available memory = (some number smaller than above one, like usual)
Main board is P3..5

It looked like something was wrong with the memory chips I placed in the
machine. So I shutdown, and booted diagnostics. It told me that I had
2MB on the motherboard, and 524288 bytes on the COMBO board. I did
a "memory diagnostic" and everything checked out fine. No errors, nothing
strange. It did everything fine.

We pulled the board, and examined all the chips... Finally we noticed
that one chip was inserted, and one of the pins were bent in, and not
inserted properly in the socket. After fixing the pin, the machine
booted fine with all the memory... Therefore, I'm not sure if the memory
diagnostics is proof positive that all your memory is working!!
