Well, it seems to be working...

Like I said, it seems to be. Looks like the problem was flaky power to the
drives. I switched the drives over to a wimply 63 watt PC supply, and all seems
to be working now.

For those of you who haven't figured out what I'm talking about, this is in
reference to my hard disk upgrade board. It looks good enough to start Beta
testing now. I already know who the Betas will be. There will be four in the
first round, as soon as I can get boards built.

I finally packed all this up and got it to a facility with a logic analyzer.
I set the whole thing up, prepared to make it fail so we could track down the
problem... and it didn't fail AARRRGGG!! Well, I tried harder... Still wouldn't
fail. Surmised the problem was very suttle indeed. Packed the whole mess up,
took it back home. Like I said above, it seems to be working fine with an
external power supply. With only two drives, a 10M Miniscribe and an old 30M
Micropolis, I was able to choke out the wimply PC supply. I have managed to
test out the circuitry for drive 3 and 4, but not the last bit for 16 heads.
I hope to get ahold of some big drives soon to do that. I am working on a way
to get the 3rd and 4th drive REALLY supported, and that is moving along.

Assuming the Beta testing goes ok, I will start accepting orders. I have cut
the list of addresses of interested people out of the replys I've received, but
I need to go back and clean it up before I post it. Some of the addresses may
be too old, so look for yours when the list comes out. I put a two week expira-
tion on this article since a lot of people are off to USENIX. Not me :(

I hate not being able to spend full time on this project.
