C-Kermit for 3b1

i have been trying to get C-kermit, or any functioning kermit onto
my 3b1. the latest c-kermit sources from columbia claim to have
a 'make att7300' option. the option fails for two different reasons.
these were all reported to columbia last year by David Herron of
ms.uky.edu. the first reason is easy to fix. the second has to do with
the final ld where all the entries in shlib.ifile have to be redefined
for some obscure reason. 

anyone who can point me to where fixes exist, or to a binary
executable which will address at least the rs232 port, even if not
the on board modem, would be very helpful.

i am running 3.51, and have the full development set so can deal with
some complexity in the solution to this problem.
