Configure scripts

I am trying to modify a configure script so that a Silicon Graphics IRIS can
be added.  Is there an easy way for a shell script to determine that I am in
fact running Irix?  I'm thinking of something like /bin/uname that gives the
NAME of the operating system instead of the version number.
