[[ This message would not interest Internet readers, so I am posting
it only to comp.sys.sun. A taste of things to come? --wnl ]]

This is a call for discussion on the creation of a newsgroup

comp.mathematica.

Mathematica is a powerful new computer mathematics system that currently
runs on machines from the following hardware vendors:

Apple Macintosh
Sun Microsystems
Ardent
Stellar
IBM RT
NeXT Computer
Silicon Graphics

and soon a number of others. There are over 1000 Mathematica users
already. Since this system is designed to be programmed, we expect many
Mathematica packages and notebooks to be written and many tricks and tips
developed.

It is expected that this will be a very active group due to the large
number of users and the many vendors who will be selling this program in
the next year.

A Mathematica user group is being organized with the support and
encouragement of the Mathematica vendors.

A newsgroup specific to this system will be of great value to users and
will provide a convenient place to put new programs and algorithms.

All discussion of this proposal should take place in this news.group.
Discussion will be ended in two weeks on November 5 at midnight. If
sufficient interest is shown, a call for votes will be posted.

TO READERS OF SCI.MATH.SYMBOLIC, COMP.SYS.NEXT, COMP.SYS.SUN,
COMP.SYS.MAC, COMP.SYS.IBM.PC.RT, COMP.SYS.SGI
 - POST ALL DISCUSSION IN NEWS.GROUPS.
