Monitor Interference Recommendations

I have recently purchased a Sun IPC with a 16" color Sony monitor. The
monitor seems to work fine aside from the fact that is seems very
susceptible to electomagnetic interference from the power lines outside my
office. The screen wavers back and forth noticeably. The problem gets
worse when the power consumption goes up in the neighborhood (ie around
6:30 pm when folks are getting home and cooking dinner, etc).

I tried at first replacing the monitor with a new one but that was to no
avail. I moved the monitor to a location in our building farthest from
the power line and that helped but did not eliminate the problem.

The ascii terminals in my office seem immune to the problem. Are there
other monitors that are less likely to suffer this malady? Is there
anything I can do to the monitor to shield it or adjust it?. Why is it
that the monitor is susceptible and the ascii terminals immune?

Any recommendations/explanations would be appreciated.
