SunOS 4.1 uucp problem?

Problem: uucp between Sun 386i 4.0.2 and AT&T 3B2 SYSV/386 that was working
         fails completely. Both the sun and the 3B2 call other hosts without
         any problems but uucp between them fails with a mesage like so...

root mudss1 (8/23-16:44-24897) BAD READ (expected 'H' got FAIL) 

After running out of intelligent ideas, decided to use a SS1+ with SunOS
4.1 instead of the 386i. Now we see the following output if we attempt a
Uutry -r host -x9
