Connecting Exabyte drives to RS6000

We have a problem connecting a genuine exabyte 8mm tape drive to
our RS6000 boxes (530 and 320s running release 3002). The problem
appears to be that the RS boxes recognise and own up to the fact
that the drive is connected but refuse to talk to it.

I believe that IBM supply a badged exabyte which does work (about
4500 pounds compared to exabytes 1500 pounds, UK prices!) the only
difference being the SCSI signature. This leads me to think that the
object database on the RS includes an entry for the IBM exabyte but
not for a real one.

Does any kind soul have the required entry, plus instructions for
installing it, or am I completely wrong on this one?
