Ada Expo '88 will be held this year in Southern California at the
Anaheim convention center on October 9-12. The first day of the Expo
(October 9, 1988) will be reserved for tutorials. There will be two
parallel tutorials which should be of interest to Macintosh
enthusiasts:

    - Developing Ada Applications On and For the Apple Macintosh Under the
         Original Macintosh Operating System, and

    - Developing Ada Applications On and For the Apple Macintosh II Under
         A/UX.

Attendees of each seminar will be required to have at least a reading
knowledge of the Ada language. A knowledge of Macintosh internals
(hardware and software) would be very helpful, but is not necessary.
In addition, for those attending the A/UX version of the seminar, at
least a reading knowledge of UNIX(tm) operating system fundamentals
would be very helpful.

With the exception of the differences between the Macintosh OS and
A/UX, the thrust of both seminars is identical. First, attendees will
be shown how to develop Ada applications using the Macintosh as a
development platform, i.e., Ada applications which will be used in
environments other than the Macintosh. Second, they will be shown how
to develop Ada applications for the Macintosh, i.e., applications
which are intended to run on the Macintosh itself, and will make use
of such features as windows, menus, and graphics.

Since the seminars will be limited to one day, most of the information
provided will be, of necessity, at a high level. Numerous pointers to
technical references, vendors, and studies will be provided. The
laboratory exercises will have to be simple, and will involve the use
of reusable components. The objectives of the seminars will include:

    - Demonstrating that the Apple Macintosh is a viable platform for Ada
        software development.

    - Illustrating that Ada technology can be used successfully to develop
applications for the Macintosh, i.e., it is a viable alternative to C
        and Pascal.

    - Showing the attendees that Ada technology is alive and well, and
        maturing.

Each tutorial will run for an entire day, and will require the use of
Macintoshes for hands-on lab exercises. Each tutorial will be limited
to thirty (30) attendees. The tuition for each tutorial to be $200
(two hundred dollars) per attendee. Enough Macs will be available to
allow a ratio of one Mac for every three participants.

The Ada Expo staff is contemplating three additional slots in each
tutorial for college and university students. They would like to make
these slots available free of charge, and will most likely have a
small contest or drawing to simplify the selection of student
attendees.
