What is NPROC and MAXUP?

In setting up X Window on A/UX, they recommend setting NPROC and MAXUP to a
value of 70.  They refer us to Chapter 2 of the User's Guide.  Well there is
nothing about those variable there.  Any help on how to set those variables
will be appreciated.
