help with smail 2.5 on A/UX

I've tried a number of times to get A/UX 2/0, sendmail, 
and smail 2.5 working together and to date
have had no luck. Has anyone out there been successful at
this combo?

I've got a uucp only site and have successfully got mail
out to other sites; the problem is that
local mail seems to go into the bit bucket.

Also, inbound usenet news seems to get hosed up to
(i'm running cnews and the rnews program fails with an exit 2
if I have smail 2.5 installed per the instructions).

I strongly suspect it has something to do with sendmail.cf produced
by the default installation is not compatable with A/UX, but I'm 
hardly a sendmail wizard. Other thought I've had is that maybe the
/bin/mail, renamed to /bin/lmail, as supplied by Apple somehow don't
like the way its invoked inside the sendmail.cf file, but I don't really
know what to change.

Oh yes, one other thing, I did the setup and said that the /bin/lmail
was not a Berkeley mailer; was that the right response?
