file transfer problems

I have had no success in transferring binary files unless the file's
type and creator are:
	"BIN " and "A/UX" 
I have tried
	"BIN " and "AUXS"
but this does not seem to work.

There is a document someplace which describes the translations that
take place for different creator and types.
