When we're repainting large amounts of the screen, as when scrolling
something, direct writes are a whole lot faster.  If you hold down an
arrow key to make it scrolll, terminfo/curses has trouble keeping up
but direct writes have no problem.  There's also complete terminfo/curses
support for people not using a console.

By the way, it's not a Norton Utilities clone, it's really the Norton
Utilities.  It even shares a certain amount of source code with the DOS
version.
