Hardwaredefect after trying to install SCO Xenix

A friend of mine ONCE had a mainboard (386 DX Cache, NEAT-chipset), which
performed all tasks fast, without any problems, until this friend of mine
decided to install a Xenix 386. During boot from the original boot disk, the
following message appeared:

panic: interrupt from unknown device, vector 2

safe to power off / reboot ...

This friend of mine pressed the reset-button and waited and waited and waited
 ...

But the mainboard didn't come up again , there was just one message:

CMOS inoperational, system halted

Needless to say that erasing the CMOS didn't cure anything ...

Now there is just one thing that would be of interest to me:

As the computer did work before trying to boot Xenix 386, and does
not work any longer since the boot has been tried, is it unfair to
blame SCO ?!!!
