Well, let's look at some numbers. There is a good X11 performance test, which
is very popular here in germay. It's called xbench. The final result of it is
call xstones. This higher that number is the faster X11 is.

SparcStation 1, cg2 color-framebuffer, 1152x900, 256 colors:  3424       
386, 33MHz, No 387, 8Megs, ET4000 board ($250) 1024x768x256:  5960
