14 character limitation in filenames

It may not help in this instance, but check comp.sources.misc for a utility
that will take tar'd source trees created on systems not subject to the 14-
char limit, rename all overlong files, rename _all references to the over-
long files in the archive itself_, recalculate the checksums, and write a
new tar file.
