DASI 450 trouble at 1200 baud

I recently scrounged an old DASI 450 terminal (the real thing, not a
lookalike).  It can't handle 1200 BAUD, it loses output.  I assume
this is because it does not use XON/XOFF protocol.  Is this true and
if so, is there a way to filter output to get around it?
