You should consider the book:

	The Design of the UNIX Operating System
	Maurice J. Bach
	Prentice-Hall Software Series
	ISBN 0-13-201799-7 025

The book is fairly new (1986), and describes the the internal algorithms
and structures for the kernel and the relations to the programmer interface.
