Setting up modems under SCO Xenix 2.2.1 for auto login ...

I've set up a modem (Hayes Smartmodem 2400) on an AT through a serial port
on my intelligent Digibord multiport card .

First question:

When I do my:

disable ttyi17m
su -s2400 -l ttyi17m dir
CONNECT
AT&F
OK
ATT
OK
ATL0
OK
AT&D2
OK
AT&C1
OK
ATS0=1
OK
ATE0
ATQ1
AT&W
~.
enable ttyi17m

to set up the modem for auto answer, does that only set it up
to communicate at 2400 baud (su -s2400 -l ttyi17m dir)? Do I have to do
				 ^^^^^
it again with "su -s1200 -lttyi17m dir" for 1200 baud logins???

second question:

I set it up as directed in the Xenix manual on configuring peripherals.
It didn't mention changeing the baud rate in the /etc/ttys file for
that specific device (should be obvious right?). I set that port
for 1200 baud logins with "1ittyi17m". I choose 'i' because I
			    ^
am dialing into the machine at 1200 baud and I dont know how to
set the thing up to talk at 1200 and/or 2400 baud. How does one do that?

also:

the modem and/or xenix won't hang up. I am still logged in even though
I have clobbered the connection for the remote site. Is the modem
not seeing the hangup? How do I fix this?

P.S.

Why can't finger see the dialed in login entirely? I won't/can't report
on idle time or tty and such when I do a finger.

Thanks.
