The Maxtor 1085 has the following geometry:
Cylinders: 1024
R/W Heads:    8

To calculate the usable capacity of a disk use the following formula:

UsableCapacity = Cylinders * Heads * SectorSize * SectorsPerTrack

So:

71,303,168 = 1024 * 8 * 512 * 17

71,303,168 Bytes = 68.00 Megabytes

CAVEAT EMPTOR:
-------------

1 Megabyte = 1,048,576 bytes  NOT  1,000,000 bytes

Most vendors don't appear to know the difference!
