VP/ix; fooling the driver

Since the offscreen facility is only possible with a Hercules, MDA,
or CGA, I wonder:  If one has a video adaptor that can emulate these
cards is it possible to fool the system into thinking that there is
a CGA or MDA installed when running VP/ix?
