Function Keys in COMPAQ Xenix

I have recently acquired a COMPAQ deskpro 286 and COMPAQ Xenix.
The system seems to be running well but I have a problem with
the function keys. That is, I can't get VI to recognize simple
things like the End and PgUp keys.

The arrow keys and the Home key work but all other keys are
ignored. (they don't even beep the speaker). Other programs
also don't see the function keys. That is,they beep if I
press Home but silently ignore the PgUp key.

Any help or pointers into the volumous documentation would
be appreciated.
