Listening to uucico dial the OBM

I decided to call up a bbs using the "Telephone" from User Agent.
(I have Smart's Communication Manager, but it takes forever to load
when I just want to call one bbs, and know I won't have to autodial.
I keep UA running as a easy way to manage a bunch of shells...)

Anyway, uucico was trying to dial some other systems. The Telephone
tried to dial, gave a "failed" message, but the speaker came on,
I heard a dial tone, dialing, a ring, and a carrier, then the speaker
cut off, just as if I'd called another system using Telephone.

I switched shells, did a psgrep for uucp. Bingo. uucico was running
and trying to call out. Something in the Telephone had turned on
the speaker while uucico was dialing.

The next time uucico ran, the same thing happened. However, I think
it might be interfering with uucico's operation.

I'd like to be able to, though, just as a debugging tool. Anybody
got any ideas on how to pull this off?
