I need more information to be able to provide a sound advise.
For example: What kind of a check would you like to run on
your hard disk?  If it is a file system check you are interested
in, then boot the machine (from the hard disk), take it down to a
single user mode ( init 1 <enter> ), and then run a filesystem
check on root and user filesystems.  If you need more help,
