X Windows on SGI 4D

Has Anyone out there succesfully brought up X on a SGI 4D Series machine.
If so I would like to know what had to be changed (if anything.) I'd like
to know if it's worth my time to get the distribution before I try, and
because of the way our SGI's are connected, it's a pain in the *ss to get
anything onto them by anything except tape.  (and I'd rather FTP the dist.
from a different machine and move it to the 4D, than buy a tape.)
