Use tar and specify device /dev/rst8 or /dev/nrst8 when writing the tape.
This uses the so-called quik-24 format instead of quik-11 (that's the
extent of my knowledge on the subject).  I don't know Apollo model numbers
but all the Apollos here seem to be able to read tar tapes made in this
fashion.
