Assembler errors for large makefiles on AUX 2.0

Does this look familiar ?
I have A/UX 2.0 on a IIFx whose disk I've swapped for an 80Meg disk from a IICi and replaced the original set of 1Meg SIMMs with eight 4Meg SIMMs . With this
setup I came across highly inconsistent compilations for large Makefiles.
The assembler flags various errors inconsistently , some of them being
syntax errors, illegal command errors,etc. This happens when "cc" is called
using the "big" version .
I tried changing back to the original 1Meg SIMMs
but that doesn't seem to work. The errors are not reproducible but occur
each time at different files. It appears to be either a hardware problem or
a problem with kernel configuration.( I have NBUF=0,NPROC=135,NINODE=NFILE=400,MAXUP=85).
Any suggestions would be a great help.

Thanks.
Bharat.
