X386 1.1a and PVGA1A 640x480x256 and Logitech Bus Mouse

Just yesterday, I acquired the complete X386 1.1a binary release; I ftp'ed
X11R4fonts.tar, X11R4core.tar.Z, and the tar file that contains the updated
1.1a server and Xconfig file. (Naturally, I replaced the server binary and
Xconfig file with the newer versions.)

My system runs ISC 2.2 UNIX. I have a Paradise VGA 1024 card, which I assume
uses a PVGA1A chipset. My monitor is just a standard 640x480 analog monitor
(not a variable frequency monitor), so I want to use the 640x480x256 mode of
the PVGA1A with panning. I uncommented the appropriate line in Xconfig for
PVGA1A, which follows:

PVGA1A  512   864 606   25 28 36            "640x480"

I commented out all other chipset entries. Then, I commented out all
resolutions except for:

"640x480"   25  640 672 768 800    480 490 492 525

My mouse entry is:

BusMouse 3 "/dev/logi"

(as I said, I have a Logitech bus mouse).

The server comes up just fine (and more quickly than ISC's, I might add :-) ),
except that my screen is "tiled"--a portion of the screen is repeatedly
overlaid all over my monitor. This portion of the screen is itself properly
displayed...it's readable, and the fonts and lines are correct. When I move
the cursor off the edge of the screen, the display pans properly, too. It's
just that the tiling persists.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to how I might rectify this
problem? I feel like I'm "so close" to having it all work, but that either some
small bug or some small oversight on my part is responsible for my trouble.
