   PPP != SLIP

   They are two different things.

   SLIP = Serial Line IP

   PPP = Point to Point Protocol

   The original SLIP was a straight forward encapsulation type of
   IP onto serial line.  Van Jacobson later added header compression
   to SLIP (CSLIP, available at ftp.ee.lbl.gov).

   PPP is a newer protocol, designed to get around problems in SLIP.
