RDBMS advice

Hi. I am running SCO UNIX Sys V Rel. 3.2.
I am looking for a SIMPLE version of some sort of SQL database
system. Something like ORACLE is WAY WAY too much. I have a need to
set up a couple of SIMPLE tables that will have 500 - 700 entries and
maybe 50 - 75 columns (fields) per record. I will want the system
users to be able to run some CANNED queries on this data base that
use relational operators. I guess what I THINK I want is simply an
SQL engine that will allow me to interface with it with C code.
I would write the queries and menus in C. I am not against a smarter
RDBMS if the price is right and the learning curve is short. I have
access to ORACLE and the volume of manuals and system overhead are
WAY WAY too much. I have heard that a product called dBVista is
something close to my needs. Comments/suggestions are welcomed.
